See the fantasy

History

In 1996, Adam Ashley began developing a unique artistic technique that he now calls "Fluid Flow". While designing a tattoo, he created the image of a dancing woman from simple, positive and negative (black and white) fluid shapes. He further developed this unique style during the next several years, creating dramatic pieces in a wide variety of themes. Each original work of art is meticulously drawn by hand by Adam Ashley, using archival ink pens on 80 lb, Bristol Smooth paper. Once completed, Adam Ashley signs, titles and dates each original work of art. The name "Fluid Fantasies" was formed to describe the "fluid" nature of the artist's technique and the "fantastic" imagery that is characteristic of his work.

What makes Fluid Fantasies unique? Seeing the fantasy.

Each Fluid Fantasies piece incorporates a principal from contemporary psychology called "closure". Closure, is a concept of perceptual organization that explains how humans fill in visual gaps in order to perceive disconnected parts as a whole. Each Fluid Fantasies piece is comprised of multiple independent fluid shapes, which when viewed as a whole, create a greater image. In addition, many pieces include hidden imagery incorporated beneath the primary image, which further inspires the phrase, "Do you see the fantasy?" Disguise, the piece shown below, is a depiction of a dolphin. However, the secondary image "disguised" within the dolphin, is a swimming woman. One of the features that makes Fluid Fantasies artwork unique is that many viewers often don't see the image initially and enjoy searching to discover the full depth of the fantasy.
